JUBILATION, CELEBRATION AND THANKSGIVING
Jubilation, Celebration, and Thanksgiving is a vibrant collection of sacred and secular music created, arranged, and performed by African Americans. This tapestry features a rich blend of spirituals, gospels, anthems, hymns, syncopated jazz, and popular music. Each selection in this recording has been thoughtfully curated to honor the diverse musical heritage of African Americans, showcasing a colorful array of compositions by both American and African American composers and arrangers.
In addition to the chorus, talented soloists enrich this diverse repertoire, which includes standout pieces such as "Toccata of Praise," a jubilant anthem by American composer Joseph Martin, and "Examine Me," an anthem crafted by renowned African American composer and Take Six member Cedric Dent. The album also features an exciting and rhythmically engaging arrangement of "Study War No More" by Joseph Joubert, alongside a stirring first-time recording of "I Thank The Lord," an original gospel song by Atlanta-born composer Clarence Robinson. Additionally, you’ll find the uplifting spiritual "I’m Gonna Live So God Can Use Me," arranged by Uzee Brown.
The musical journey continues with a lively, toe-tapping rendition of Fats Waller’s "The Joint Is Jumpin’," a work song titled "Music In the Mine" by R. Nathaniel Dett, a captivating arrangement of "Great Is Thy Faithfulness" by Nathan Carter, and the album concludes on a high note with "Age of Aquarius" by Galt McDermot, leaving listeners inspired and uplifted.
